EMINENT Accelerates Toward Completion: Final Workshop

The EMINENT consortium held its final workshop to share progress and results, address challenges, and align ahead of the project’s conclusion later this year.

EMINENT Accelerates Toward Completion: Final Workshop

Building a Norwegian Value Chain for Seabed Minerals

Over the past three years, the EMINENT project has made significant strides toward establishing a Norwegian value chain for seabed minerals. The initiative has advanced key areas including exploration, environmental management, processing, and production.

This final workshop served as a pivotal moment to consolidate the collaborative efforts and achievements of the consortium.

DeepInsight 25: A Turning Point

The DeepInsight 25 research expedition was a major success, securing mineral samples for geological characterisation and processing trials and capturing multiple video transects for environmental analysis.

Studies of several newly discovered seafloor massive sulphide (SMS) deposits have greatly enhanced geological understanding of deep-sea areas on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

Environmental DNA: Unlocking Deep-Sea Biodiversity

Environmental DNA (eDNA) has been a key method used to deepen knowledge of deep-sea biodiversity. These techniques can support both baseline data collection and the development of efficient monitoring programs during future operations. Members of the EMINENT consortium have applied for additional research funding to continue this work.

Final Seminar – December 9

EMINENT has embraced an open data policy, aiming to make project results publicly accessible. Several scientific papers have already been published or are in progress, and the project has prioritized communication with government, industry, and the public.

As part of its outreach efforts, the EMINENT project will host a final seminar on December 9, where results and insights will be presented. An open invitation will be shared soon.

“It’s inspiring to see the results of nearly three years of hard work built on results from three research cruises come together. We’ve made significant progress across multiple areas and see real potential for establishing a Norwegian value chain for seabed minerals,” says Anette Broch Mathisen Tvedt, EMINENT Project Manager and CEO Adepth Minerals.
